Prof. Dr. Gause gibt in ihrem Vortrag zunächst einen Überblick über die Gender-Forschung im Allgemeinen und spricht dann über derzeitige Entwürfe der Männlichkeitsforschung und ihre Relevanz für die Kirchengeschichte. Schließlich stellt sie in einem Forschungsteil ein Beispiel für militarisierte protestantische Männlichkeit im 20. Jahrhundert vor. Die sogenannten „neuen Heldinnen“ werden hier einleitend skizziert.
Prof. Dr. theol. Ute Gause war von 1990 bis 1996 Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für mittlere und neuere Kirchengeschichte in Münster. Sie wurde 1991 promoviert. Von 1996 bis 2007 war sie Professorin für Kirchen- und Theologiegeschichte im Fach Evangelische Theologie an der Universität Siegen und ist seit 2007 am Lehrstuhl für Kirchengeschichte der Ruhr-Universität. Ihre Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind unter anderem Frauen- und Geschlechtergeschichte und Diakoniegeschichte. Gause ist Mitherausgeberin der Reihe Historisch-Theologische Genderforschung.
