26th HEIDELBERG GRAND ROUNDS Focal cancer therapy

The HGR have been established as a forum
to bring together basic scientists and clinicians.
Distinguished experts present
novel clinical and research findings and
provide a comprehensive update in the
respective field of oncology.
In addition to the high-ranking scientific and
clinical presentations, the HGR also constitute
a casual get-together, seasoned with drinks
and refreshments, to foster a lively atmo-
sphere for continued discussion.

Maurice Stephan Michel is Professor of
Urology and Head of the Department of
Urology of the University of Mannheim.
His scientific interests are related to the
improvement and development of surgical
technology for genitourinary malignancies.
Jürgen Debus is Professor of Radiooncology
and Head of the Department of Radiooncology
and Radiation Therapy of the University of
Heidelberg. The Department of Radiation
Oncology and Radiation Therapy is among
the world‘s most advanced centers for
radiation therapy offering because the entire
spectrum of radio-oncological diagnosis and
therapy. His main focus is the improvement
of radiation technologies with the ultimate
goal to target more precisely and effectively
the tumor while reducing the toxicity of the
therapy. In this context, the Heidelberg Ion
Beam Therapy Center HIT was added to the
technological repertoire of the Department.
Jürgen Weitz is Professor of Surgery and Vice
Chairman of the Department of General-,
Visceral- and Transplantation Surgery. He is
head of the division of Surgical Oncology,
the scientific working group of Molecular
Oncology and the Clinical Research Group:
Colorectal Cancer: From primary tumor
progression towards metastasis (KFO 227).
His basic interest relates to surgical advances
for the treatment of complex and advanced
tumors.
Sascha Pahernik is Associate Professor and
Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology
of the University of Heidelberg. His main
focus of research is urooncology, in particular
minimal invasive options for the treatment of
renal cell cancer and prostate cancer.

continuing education will be given
by the Landesärztekammer and
two AIO-Punkte will be given by
Arbeitsgemeinschaft
Internistische
Onkologie.
Within the practical year, the points
will be recognized in the field of
internal medicine and surgery.
