Die Beziehungen Kaiser Friedrichs III. zu dem zweiten Mann im Reich, dem Mainzer Erzbischof, und zum Mittelrhein-Main-Gebiet erscheinen durch die mit diesem Band erschlossenen Quellen in neuem Licht. Die Kaiserurkunden erhellen markante Ereignisse wie die „große“ Mainzer Stiftsfehde (1461-1463) und die Übernahme der kaiserlichen Kanzlei durch den Mainzer Kurfürsten (1471-1475).
