Summer School: "Use of Solar Energy as Contribution to a Sustainable Development"

In the context of Intersolar Europe 2011, the world's largest exhibition of solar
technologies from June 08 ‐10, 2011 in Munich (Germany) an interdisciplinary
summer school will be organized at the Justus‐Liebig‐University in Gießen (Germany) from May 30 – June 07, 2011 which will cover technical as well as socio‐economic aspects of the use of solar technologies as part of a sustainable energy supply in developing countries and countries with emerging economies.

The summer school in Gießen aims at a comparative discussion of different methods of solar energy conversion to electricity regarding their technological needs as well as their requirements and consequences regarding cultural, political and economic structures. Experiences in the past have shown that projects of development have failed or at least had significantly less impact than originally planned despite well established technical feasibility and despite demand of their use, caused by insufficient embedding into the socio‐economic structures of the societies that were supposed to benefit. Consideration of socio‐economic boundary conditions at an early stage of planning therefore is of key importance for the successful use of solar energy for a sustainable energy supply.

Information on participating / attending:

Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
