Zur Konferenz im Darmstädter Wissenschafts- und Kongresszentrum darmstadtium werden 150 internationale Wissenschaftler erwartet, die über neueste Forschungsergebnisse im Bereich des Computational Engineering diskutieren werden. Computational Engineering ist als computergestützte Modellierung, Simulation und Optimierung in den Ingenieurwissenschaften eine fachübergreifende Schlüsseldisziplin für universitäre wie industrielle Forschung und Entwicklung und ein profilbildender Schwerpunkt in Forschung und Lehre der TU Darmstadt.
Organisiert wird die Konferenz von der Graduate School of Computational Engineering, die im Rahmen der Exzellenzinitiative Ende 2007 als zentrale Einheit an der TU Darmstadt für Forschung und Ausbildung von Graduierten in diesem Bereich geschaffen wurde. Neben der Bereitstellung eines exzellenten Umfeldes für Forschungsaktivitäten ist es das Ziel der Graduiertenschule, Doktoranden in drei Jahren zur Promotion zu führen und ihnen dabei auch wertvolle nichtfachliche Schlüsselkomptenzen („SoftSkills“) zu vermitteln.
