Die Verknappung natürlicher Ressourcen, der steigende Energiebedarf, der mit der Atmosphärenbelastung verbundene Klimawandel – Die Probleme der nächsten Jahrzehnte scheinen unüberwindbar. Professor Markus Antonietti, Direktor des Max-Planck-Instituts für Kolloid- und Grenzflächenforschung Potsdam/Golm, zeigt in seinem Festvortrag über „Biometische Chemie. Lösungen für den Planet Erde“ mögliche Lösungen auf. Seine Vision ist eine der Natur nachempfundene Technologie, um mittelfristig das Kohlendioxidniveau in der Luft zu stabilisieren: die molekulare Biomimetik.
Im Rahmen der Festsitzung verleihen der Präsident der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften Professor Günter Stock und der Oberbürgermeister der Landeshauptstadt Potsdam Jann Jakobs die Nachwuchspreise der Akademie sowie den Potsdamer Nachwuchswissenschaftler-Preis. Darüber hinaus stellt Vizepräsident Professor Klaus Lucas die neuen Mitglieder der Akademie vor.
Der Abend wird musikalisch begleitet von Ludwig van Beethovens „Frühlingssonate“ und César Francks „Sonate für Violine und Klavier in A-Dur“. Im Vorprogramm ab 18:40 läuft der Film „Salon Sophie Charlotte 2011“ über Mäzene der Wissenschaften und Künste.
