Die alternde Gesellschaft in Polen verlangt immer mehr Aufmerksamkeit seitens des Staates und der lokalen Träger der Sozialpolitik. Leider gibt es in Polen keine Altenpolitik. Die Mängel beziehen sich vor allem auf die Pflege und Partizipation der älteren Menschen, besonders auf dem Lande. Doch in letzter Zeit gewinnen unterschiedliche Formen der Selbstorganisierung der Älteren in Nichtregierungsorganisationen an Bedeutung (z. B. in Universitäten des dritten Alters). In der Rentenpolitik entsteht – nach der Reform 1999 – weiterer Reformbedarf.
