Im Symposion Deutschdidaktik e. V. (SDD) sind fast 700 Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler organisiert, die die Theorie und Praxis des Deutschunterrichts forschend und lehrend weiterentwickeln. Damit ist das SDD die größte Organisation zur Förderung deutschdidaktischer Forschungsaktivitäten und des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene. Das alle zwei Jahre, zuletzt an den Universitäten Bremen und Köln stattfindende Symposion ist das bedeutendste Forum deutschdidaktischer Forschung. 2012 umfasst es unter dem Motto "Sprachlich-literarische Vielfalt wahrnehmen, aufgreifen, fördern" 15 thematische Sektionen, Plenarvorträge, Workshops und eine Postersektion.
