Wenn es um den Schutz von Klima und Umwelt geht, ist die Nachhaltigkeit ein viel zitierter Begriff, der selten ausreichend differenziert betrachtet wird. Das Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe legte um 2000 eine Studie vor, auf der das so genannte 3-Säulen-Modell der nachhaltigen Entwicklung basiert. Seine Dimensionen umfassen ökonomische, ökologische und soziale Nachhaltigkeit. Doch welche Bedeutung hat Kultur innerhalb bereits formulierter dimensionsübergreifender Nachhaltigkeitsziele? In der Podiumsdiskussion »The Cultural Turn and its Practice in the Humanities« verhandeln ExpertInnen aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Kultur die Erweiterung des Verantwortungsbereichs »Kultur«. TeilnehmerInnen des Panels sind u.a. der Friedensnobelpreisträger Adolfo Pérez Esquivel sowie Olaf Gerlach Hansen, Direktor Culture | Futures und Senior Advisor des Dänischen Kulturinstituts. Die Diskussion findet in Englisch und Deutsch statt und wird von Gottfried Langenstein, Vize-Präsident von ARTE, moderiert.

Wie essentiell Kultur als gesellschaftlicher Pfeiler ist, zeigt Molinos multimediales, szenisches Konzert »Three Mile Island«. Es setzt sich mit dem Störfall, der sich am 28.3.1979 im Kernkraftwerk Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania (USA) ereignete, auseinander und bietet damit einen unmittelbaren wie künstlerischen Zugang zu der komplexen Thematik.
