Im fünften und letzten Vortrag der Reihe beschäftigt sich Prof. Dr. Nicole Karafyllis vom Philosophischen Seminar der Technischen Universität Braunschweig mit den "Energielandschaften der Zukunft".
Die Biologin und Philosophin Karafyllis hat in Tübingen am Internationalen Zentrum für Ethik in den Wissenschaften (IZEW) promoviert und in Stuttgart im Fach Philosophie habilitiert. Sie war 2007 Gastprofessorin für Applied Philosophy of Science an der Universität Wien, Österreich. 2008 hat sie den Ruf an die United Arab Emirates University (Abu Dhabi, VAE) als Full Professor of Philosophy angenommen, wo sie auch Vizedekanin des internationalen Promotionsprogramms war. Seit 2010 ist sie an der TU Braunschweig Professorin für Philosophie.
Ihre Arbeitsgebiete sind Wissenschafts- und Technikphilosophie, Philosophische Anthropologie, Angewandte Ethik (insb. Umwelt-, Bio-, Agrar- und Technikethik) und interdisziplinäre Technikforschung (z. B. auch im Bereich der Medizintechnik), Phänomenologie, Interkulturelle Philosophie (v.a. mit Bezug zur arabischen Philosophie), Naturphilosophie (systematisch und historisch), Moderne Ideengeschichte der Technik, Technik und Gender.
