Human-Centred Design in Government & Social Innovation: Lessons from Europe & the US

International Symposium

The public sector is challenged to provide ever more citizen-centric policies and services for more people with fewer resources. In this new landscape, public organizations have to engage and enable people like never before. For many public organizations, doing so involves two challenges: the first concerns changes in how an organization approaches the design and delivery of its products and services. But since products, and especially services are deeply embedded in organizations, the second challenges concerns changes to the organization itself that are necessary to sustain and maintain these new products and services. This symposium shows how different governments are employing human-centred design thinking, design methods and design practices to innovate and transform their own organizational approaches to policy-making and policy implementation. The event offers an opportunity to discuss if these approaches are relevant to German policy-makers and public managers.
