Less than a year from now, a referendum will reveal whether the majority of Scots believe that Scotland would be better off as an independent state or as a part of the UK. What is happening in Scotland at the moment possesses relevance beyond Scotland's borders. The referendum and its implications will be discussed at an interdisciplinary conference on "Scotland 2014: Coming of Age and Loss of Innocence?" at the Germersheim-based Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) from October 17–20, 2013. Key issues are: future scenarios for Scotland as well as ideas from the past that should be taken into account again; the contributions of politics, the law, the economy, the media, literature and art plus history and philosophy to the discourses on Scotland’s possible independence; the narratives of independence and devolution that have been presented so far and the mentalities connected with them; the Scottish case in Europe and the democratic world; and the question of who will control the new Scotland.
The conference "Scotland 2014: Coming of Age and Loss of Innocence?" with speakers from Scotland, Germany, and the United States of America will take place from October 17-20, 2013 at the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies of Mainz University in Germersheim. The interested public and in particular students are welcome to attend the conference free of cost.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
