Averil Cameron, war Professorin für Spätantike und Byzantinische Studien am King`s College in London und Warden des Keble College der Universität Oxford. Ihr besonderes Interesse gilt – neben der Geschichte und Kultur der Spätantike und von Byzanz – der Religions- und Kirchengeschichte. Aktuell erforscht sie als Leverhulme Emeritus Fellow die Dialogformen im spätantiken Christentum, sowie Byzanz am Vorabend des Islams und in der frühislamischen Zeit.
