Der Kongress findet zum ersten Mal seit seiner Gründung in den europäischen Alpen statt und ist neben der Höhenphysiologie und Höhenmedizin erstmals auch der alpinen Notfallmedizin gewidmet. Hauptthemen werden neue Aspekte der Höhenmedizin und Akklimatisation sowie Kälte, Traumatologie und technische Workshops sein. An einem der sechs Konferenztage wird außerdem der Aufbau einer Boden- und Flugrettung in Nepal diskutiert werden.

Der Weltkongress wird in Zusammenarbeit mit der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Gebirgsmedizin (ISMM), der Asiatisch Pazifischen Gesellschaft für Gebirgsmedizin (APSMM) der Internationalen Kommission für Alpine Notfallmedizin (IKAR), dem Internationalen Bergsteigerverbandes (UIAA) und der Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) organisiert.
Die Abstracts des Weltkongresses werden in einer Sonderausgabe der Fachzeitschrift „High Altitude Medicine & Biology (HAMB)“ veröffentlicht.
