Afrikas politische Parteien gelten gemeinhin als Interessenvertreter von ethnischen Gruppen. Doch ganz so farblos ist das Bild der politischen Landschaft auf dem Kontinent nicht – zeigt GIGA-Experte Sebastian Elischer in seinem neu erschienenen Buch „Political Parties in Africa: Ethnicity and Party Formation“. In vielen Ländern Afrikas sind andere Parteitypen mittlerweile die Norm. Sie unterstützen beispielsweise eine Person oder ein klares Programm. Doch auf welchem Nährboden wachsen dominante, ethnische Parteien? Wann bilden sich politische Gruppierungen anderen Formats? Elischer gibt in seinem Buch Antworten.
