The seminar provides a broad overview on the Ukrainian literature and will then focus on the influence of Shevchenko on successive author generations. For this purpose, the discussion will cover the works of widely recognized writers, but also take into account the texts of authors who occupy a less prominent position with the record keepers of literature history. Within the context of a new societal environment, these authors raise the questions of national identity and literary autonomy just as well, while discussing it in a substantially different manner.
Mikhailo Minakov (Kyїv/Greifswald): Political Transformation of Post-Soviet Ukraine and Neighbouring Countries. The seminar aims at getting a clear picture of how the post-Soviet nations made a transition from expected democracies into authoritarian systems. Political, as well as social, economic and cultural issues will be studied and discussed in an open-minded environment of international scholars.
Ryszard Kupidura (Poznañ): Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky and Volodymyr Vynnychenko - In Search of a Common Denominator. The aim of the seminar will be a comparative approach of the oeuvre of listed writers in order to demonstrate the differences and similarities in their literary projections of power, revolution, gender, the development of civilization, the presence of the Other, etc.
