Die Konferenz wird von der Stiftung Mercator, dem Forum Internationale Wissenschaft der Universität Bonn, der University of Sussex und dem Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society gemeinsam ausgerichtet. Fünf verschiedene Diskussionsrunden und vier Einführungsvorträge sollen dazu dienen, das Verhältnis von Wissenschaft und Politik systematisch zu untersuchen. Im Zentrum steht dabei die Frage, wie sich die Wissenschaft auf die veränderten Ansprüche und den sich wandelnden Bedarf der Politik einstellt. Wie wirken sich diese Veränderungen auf wissenschaftliche Politikberatung, die Kommunikationsformen der Wissenschaft, ihre Auswahlkriterien für Forschungsagenden und ihre institutionelle Verfasstheit aus? Und welche Rolle spielen Stiftungen, die sich an der Schnittstelle zwischen Wissenschaft und Politik bewegen?
