Auch im fünften Jahr Eurokrise bleiben die Rolle Deutschlands und die Zukunft des Euros höchst relevante Themen. Im Gegensatz zu Eurogegnern argumentiert C. Fred Bergsten, dass Deutschland wichtige Gründe dafür hat, den Erfolg des Euros zu sichern und die Eurozone zusammenzuhalten. Für Deutschland wäre es wohl undenkbar, sich nachsagen zu lassen, „Europa ein drittes Mal zerstört zu haben“. Dennoch steht noch eine klare Vision aus, wie es die Eurozone intakt halten und auf die anstehenden Herausforderungen reagieren will.
