Die Werke, die zur Galerie des 20. Jahrhunderts gehören, sind Eigentum des Landes Berlin und als Dauerleihgabe in der Nationalgalerie und im Kupferstichkabinett der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin. Zwei Wissenschaftlerinnen haben im Rahmen des Projektes rund 450 bis 1945 entstandene Gemälde, Skulpturen und Arbeiten auf Papier systematisch daraufhin untersucht, ob sie in der NS-Zeit verfolgungsbedingt entzogen wurden.
