Bachelor Summer School on Innovation and Energy

The Summer School on Innovation and Energy offers a workshop-based program for students in the field of engineering and energy. We will provide an introduction into Design Thinking as an innovation tool. The Summer School is designed as a blended learning opportunity and bachelor-students from all over Europe can participate. The main goal of the Summer School is it to motivate students to become innovative thinkers and to provide them with techniques that will be useful in their future careers

The Summer School on Innovation & Energy offers an introduction into Design Thinking as an important innovation tool. It is designed as a blended learning opportunity for students. The aim of this Summer School is to create links between the issues of innovation and energy. During the course, a hands-on introduction to Design Thinking will be provided that will enable engineering students to gain a deeper insight into innovative processes. Thus, KIC InnoEnergy wants to contribute to preparing students for the new and innovative challenges facing them in their future professional lives.

Timetable and Structure
The Summer School consists of two parts:
- an online period from August 4 to 22, 2014
- one week face-to-face meeting in Karlsruhe from August 25 to 29, 2014.
The online part provides a first introduction to the topics, including reading material and webinars. Also, the design challenge, on which the groups will be working in Karlsruhe, will be defined. Here, each group will have the opportunity to learn more about people‘s views on new technologies and to talk with experts about future challenges.

Design Thinking
Design Thinking is an iterative approach for identifying actual problems and creating appropriate solutions. It involves distinct methods for creating empathy, generating insights, and testing solutions. After completing the workshop, participants will have learned and actually practiced the whole process of systematic innovation with Design Thinking.
At the Summer School you will face questions such as:
How can energy consumption be changed?
How do people behave and think about energy and their own consumption?
What could a smart system of the future be like?

The Summer School on Innovation & Energy offers a workshop-based program for students in the field of Engineering and energy, in line with the KIC InnoEnergy goal to foster the integration of education, technology, business and entrepreneurship and to strengthen the culture of innovation.
KIC InnoEnergy is the European company for innovation, entrepreneurship and education in the sustainable energy field. It brings together academia, business and research. Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
