Due to its complexity, colloid and interface science does not only present great challenges but also offer new opportunities - in fundamental research as well as in technological applications. Modern car tires provide a practical example: thanks to the additional colloidal silicon oxide energy consumption is reduced by approx. 5%. Nanoparticles are increasingly becoming part of our daily life. Mainz researchers are developing a nanoparticle-based tumor therapy for melanoma in a Collaborative Research Centre of the German Research Foundation. They aspire to permanently eliminate hidden metastases by developing a tumor immunotherapy.
This five-day conference aims to present recent results and discuss future prospects in colloid and interface science. Topics include wetting, responsive systems, surface forces, friction, adhesion, foams, bubbles and emulsions, dispersions, self-assembly of molecules and nanoparticles, biocolloids and biointerfaces.
