Abstract: Psychosis proneness is conceptualized as a broad, hierarchically organized, multidimensional behavioral disposition - a basic personality trait. Ten very different subdimensions yet converging on one higher-order factor (Disintegration) were revealed through a series of factor analyses of almost a thousand psychotic-like indicators on a sample of senior high school students (N=2,780): General Executive Impairment, Perceptual Distortions, Enhanced Awareness, Depression, Paranoia, Mania, Flattened Affect, Somatic Dysregulations, Magical Thinking, and Social Anhedonia (the last one dropped as it was demonstrated to be a primary indicator of Introversion). The convergence was replicated and the robustness of the Disintegration factor demonstrated on undergraduate students (N=466) and on national representative sample (N=1,001). Disintegration was found to lie beyond the Five Factors’ space, independently of the method of assessment (self-, mother’s and father’s ratings). It had a normal distribution in the general population. Articulating it as a basic personality trait appears to represent the findings adequately.
