Fiber-reinforced thermoplastics offer many advantages such
as good material properties and recyclability, the potential of
further processing and high impact strength. Especially the processing
of semi-finished products, thermoplastic tapes, allows
the industrial mass production of load-optimized components
due to shorter process cycle times, the reduction of process
steps and a high potential for process automation.
The seminar “Automated Processing of Thermoplastic Tapes”
gives an overview on different systems and processes for tape
placement presenting these technologies in the context of the
whole value chain. The seminar focuses on the in-situ tape
placement. With the presentation of potential applications, an
insight into the market and into cost structures, the seminar
provides the attendees with a basic understanding of the
technologies and their feasibility for different applications. A
live demonstration completes the insight into tape processing
technologies.
Organizer:
At Fraunhofer IPT, we advance the automation of fiber-reinforced
plastics (FRP) processing by developing production machines
for composite engineering. We develop and optimize special-
purpose machinery and processes for the automated tape,
prepreg and fiber placement as well as for winding. We process
thermoplastic and thermoset semi-finished products as well as
dry-fiber rovings with binder and produce tailored components
via local reinforcement. Furthermore, our research activities and
services include multifunctional thermoforming, systems for
gripping and handling of FRP semi-finished products as well as
pultrusion technologies.
