In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel, a conference with the title "Rapprochement, Change, Perception and Shaping the Future: 50 Years of German-Israeli and Israeli-German Diplomatic Relations" will be held from April 27th to April 30th at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany. The conference, which will be in English, is organized by the Israel Study Unit and by students of the Israel study group of Mainz University. During the four-day conference, more than 20 researchers and decision makers in the fields of politics and economics from Germany, Israel, and the US will get together in lectures and panel discussions in order to analyze the complex German-Israeli relations of the past 50 years. Since the intended outlook on the German-Israeli relations is to be as multifaceted as the relationship between the two countries itself, advocates of most diverse scholarly disciplines will be participating in the conference. Those will be analyzing the German-Israeli and Israeli-German relations with regard to attitudes, images, a shared past of, for example, cultural cooperation, and also the future cooperation between the two states.

The opening ceremony of the conference will take place on the evening of April 27th, 2015 in the State Parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate in Mainz. Honorary patron of the conference is Minister-President Malu Dreyer. From April 28th to April 30th, more than 20 scientists, politicians, and decision makers for economy from Germany, Israel, and the United States will get together to examine the complex relationship in lectures and panel discussions at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Registration until Wednesday, April 15th, 2015 is required to participate in the conference. There will be no admission but admission control.

Further information on the conference and registration is available at http://conference.50-ger-il.com/ and http://conference.50-ger-il.com/registration/.
