Abstract: Topological insulators represent a new state of matter, which is protected by certain symmetries and can arise, for example, from strong spin-orbit coupling. While their basic properties can be captured in a single-particle picture, the understanding of the consequences of strong electronic correlations has become a key research topic. Here, we study the effect of a realistic long-range Coulomb interaction in the framework of the Kane-Mele model. Our results from exact quantum Monte Carlo simulations establish the phase diagram, which contains a Dirac semimetal, a topological insulator, and an antiferromagnetic Mott insulator. A finite-size scaling analysis is consistent with a novel fermionic critical point in the absence of spin-orbit coupling, as appropriate for graphene. Furthermore, we discuss the possibility of a Mott metal-insulator transition in the helical edge states.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
