Die chemische Industrie ist seit jeher geprägt vom technologischen Wandel und den verschiedenen Entwicklungsstufen der Industrialisierung. Treiber für neue Technologien waren immer die Notwendigkeit der Steigerung von Produkt- und Prozessqualität.
In einem Umfeld mit einem hohen Grad an Automatisierung, Informatisierung und Digitalisierung in der Produktion, sind Schlüsselthemen wie Vernetzung über die gesamte Wertschöpfungskette hinweg oder Transparenz von Betriebs-, Zustands- und Umfeld-Daten für eine zeitnahe Prozessüberwachung die maßgeblichen Faktoren für eine Produktivitätssteigerung durch Industrie 4.0.
