On Monday, October 5, Kiel University will be celebrating its 350th birthday with a ceremony and reception. Around 700 guests from across the world are anticipated, including Her Royal Highness, Princess Benedikte of Denmark. In addition to the younger sister of Margrethe II of Denmark, the Danish queen, welcome speeches at the ceremony in the Offene Kirche Sankt Nikolai zu Kiel (starting at 2 p.m., entry as from 1 p.m.) will also be given by Schleswig-Holstein's Minister-President and patron of the university jubilee, Torsten Albig, and regional bishop Gerhard Ulrich. Professor Dr Lutz Kipp, President of Kiel University, will be giving the ceremonial speech. The musical framework for the ceremony will be provided by Kiel University's Studentenkantorei (student choir), under the direction of university music director, Bernhard Emmer. The premiere of a carillon concert at the Kieler Kloster in honour of Kiel University will conclude the ceremony. The official ceremony reception for the university's birthday will take place in the evening at the Kieler Rathaus (City Hall). The event starts at 6 p.m. (entry as from 5:30 p.m.).
Kiel University invites media representatives to report on its 350th anniversary of the university's foundation on October 5, 2015. Please complete a binding registration for the two events using the online form, which can be found under www.cau350.uni-kiel.de/en/press/foundation-anniversary. This can be done until September 25. After you have completed the form you will receive email confirmation regarding receipt of your registration. As from September 28 you will receive notification on whether your accreditation was successful and when and where you can collect your press ID tags.
