Eine erfolgreiche Innovationskultur zu entwickeln bedeutet insbesondere für international agierende Unternehmen zusätzliche Herausforderungen. Bei Standorten in vielen Ländern mit verschiedenen Aufgabenfeldern treffen unterschiedliche Kulturen und Mitarbeitermentalitäten aufeinander. Neben strukturellen und prozessorientierten Fragen bei der Realisierung eines Innovationsmanagements spielt daher auch die Kommunikation über alle Grenzen hinweg eine wesentliche Rolle. Wie in weltweit agierenden Unternehmen ein Innovations- und damit auch Unternehmenserfolg erzielt werden kann zeigen die beiden Vorträge des Abends.
Thema 1:
„Digital Light Processing – How Texas Instruments revolutionized the video projector technology”
The Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) at the heart of Texas Instruments’ Digital Light Products was developed beginning in 1979. Why did it take 15 years to field a product using the technology? How was it possible to sustain corporate support over such a period? The answers are a complex story of technology development, opportunity cost, available personnel, corporate commitment, business environment, supporting technologies, and government regulation.
Dr. Gale worked on the technology in Central Research during the ‘lean years’, authored several key patents and was part of the leadership team in TI’s successful experiment in corporate venturing. He will review some of the elements that came together in unexpected ways and contributed to the success of the technology. There are important parallels to any disruptive technology.

Prof. Dr. Richard Gale is currently a visiting professor in the Fakultät Elektrotechnik und Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen at the Hochschule Landshut, sponsored by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst. His home base is as Professor and Associate Chair, Graduate Studies, at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Prior to his appointment at Texas Tech, Dr. Gale worked at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, retiring as Distinguished Member, Technical Staff, in 2001. He continues to work with Texas Instruments in a program at Texas Tech developing students and techniques for product and test engineering.
Thema 2:
„Wie 3M sein Wissen nutzt – international und interkulturell“
3M zählt zu den zehn innovativsten Unternehmen weltweit. Der Vortrag gibt einen Einblick in die globale Innovationsstrategie des Konzerns. Dr. Guggenberger befasst sich dabei mit Unternehmenskultur, mit der Förderung von individueller Entrepreneurship sowie mit den Prinzipien, Prozessen und Strukturen im Unternehmen 3M. Außerdem zeigt er, wie die kulturelle Vielfalt in globalen Teams für den Innovationsgeist genutzt werden kann.
Ihr Experte an diesem Abend:
Dr. Rainer Guggenberger ist als Corporate Scientist verantwortlich für Innovation, Technologie und neue Geschäftsfelder bei 3M Oral Care, der Dentalsparte des weltweit tätigen Technologiekonzerns 3M. Zuvor war er im Vorstand der 3M ESPE AG fünf Jahre lang verantwortlich für Forschung, Entwicklung und Qualitätsmanagement. Insgesamt verfügt der promovierte Chemiker über 30 Jahre Erfahrung in Produktentwicklung, F&E-Management und New Business Development im stark kundenorientierten Dentalmarkt. 2007 wurde er mit dem „Carlton Award“ ausgezeichnet, dem höchsten Innovationspreis des 3M Konzerns.
