Opening up Science

The workshop combines lightning talks and more active breakout groups to enable participants jointly reflecting what it is what stops researchers from doing Open Science and what are the most convincing arguments to start today.

About the Workshop:

Funders, policy makers and the researchers themselves increasingly call for opening up science and tearing down the walls of the ivory tower of academia. It is argued that openness of scientific products, like articles and data, and methods, like open notebook science, accelerate scholarly communication by granting access to results, embrace various target groups and views, increase scientific knowledge and along with it advance science as a whole. Here, the Internet is the medium which empowers rethinking of incrusted procedures and systems.

Although there is a significant group of early adopters and enthusiasts of Open Science spread over the scientific disciplines, the majority of researchers is reluctant towards Open Science and Science 2.0 – mostly because it is still unclear, what are the benefits of being an Open Scientist. Or they find the concept of Open Science appealing but do not know how to start.

The workshop “Opening Up Science” is the opportunity to discuss these issues with practising open scientists. They will share their experiences and let you know what works, what not, which activities are beneficial and which are rather risky in Internet-based environments. You will learn also about the tools and strategies the Open Scientists utilize and what drives them to perform science openly.

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
