Das GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies und der Norddeutsche Rundfunk starten eine gemeinsame Diskussionsreihe. Forscher und Journalisten diskutieren über aktuelle globale Entwicklungen, die immer auch Hamburg betreffen.
Bei der Auftaktveranstaltung steht China im Fokus, ein Land mit vielen Problemen. Das wird nicht zuletzt die diesjährige Weltklimakonferenz zeigen. China hat die USA beinahe als größter CO2-Produzent überholt. Doch Smog und Umweltprobleme sind nur ein Symptom dessen, was derzeit im Reich der Mitte schief läuft. Chinas Wirtschaft lahmt, Proteste wie in Hongkong, aber auch Unglücke wie die Explosion einer Chemiefabrik in Tianjin nähren die Zweifel am chinesischen Modell.
