Neue Impfstoffe aus Zucker können Kinder und Erwachsene wirksam vor Krankenhauskeimen und tödlicher Lungenentzündung schützen. Sie sollen den Erreger nicht abtöten, sondern das Immunsystem frühzeitig sensibilisieren. In dem Vortrag wird die Entwicklung und Herstellung dieser neuartigen Impfstoffe aufgezeigt. Das entwickelte Verfahren ist momentan die günstigste Methode um gegen schwere Infektionskrankheiten vorzubeugen.
Peter H. Seeberger hat 2007 den Körber-Preis für die Europäische Wissenschaft erhalten. Im Anschluss an den Vortrag wird die Ausstellung „Durchblicke – Breakthroughs“ der Körber-Stiftung eröffnet.
