In insgesamt vier Themensessions werden internationale Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler die vielfältigen Facetten der Evolution von Infektionserregern interdisziplinär beleuchten, beispielsweise die Entstehungsgeschichte bedeutsamer Infektionserreger von z.B. Pest oder Tuberkulose (Prof. Thierry Wirth, Sorbonne Universités, Paris) oder auch die Untersuchungen von Infektionskrankheiten in menschlichen Überresten (Dr. Albert Zink, Institut für Mumien und den Iceman, Bozen). Für die erste Keynote Lecture am 19. Januar konnte Prof. Sebastian Bonhoeffer von der ETH Zürich gewonnen werden, der darstellen wird, wie die Dynamik und Evolution infektiöser Pathogene mittels mathematischer Computermodelle untersucht werden kann. Die zweite Keynote Lecture am 20. Januar hält Prof. Philippe J. Sansonetti aus Paris mit seinem Talk "Gut, symbionts and pathogens: a stormy menage á trois".
