The IPK summer school provides a comprehensive overview on how plant genetic resources can be a valuable resource for the discovery of high yielding and stress-resistant varieties in modern agriculture. In order to understand the stages of development, you will get to know various techniques and approaches to dissect the genetic basis of a trait of interest.
You will start with crossing of barley and embryogenic pollen cultures to generate homozygous double haploids. You will get deep insights in advanced phenotyping and genotyping techniques. The generated data will be used for QTL (quantitative trait locus) mapping and GWAS (genome wide association study) analysis. Finally, the identified candidate genes will be located by single copy FISH (Fluorescence in situ hybridization) and you will investigate the evolution of a domestication locus.
