Workshop:DATA COLLECTION and VISUALIZATION of NETWORKS in HISTORY and CULTURE

Martin Stark studied social and economic history at the University of Hamburg. He obtained his PhD in Modern History at University of Trier as a member of the research cluster "Societal Dependencies and Social Networks". His research focuses on Historical Network Research, Digital Humanities and visual methods. He is a member of the Historical Network Research initiative, founding editor of the Journal of Historical Network Research.

On the second day, after his Lecture in Giessen (https://idw-online.de/de/event58856), Dr. Stark will hold a hands-on workshop at the Herder Institute, which aims at providing registered participants the possibility to adapt the digital methods presented in the lecture via applying online and open source tools to their own research questions and projects. With Dr. Stark’s assistance, each participant is invited to bring his or her research data and work with his or her own findings.

The workshop is open to all graduate students, researchers, and staff interested in digital history. No prior knowledge of digital history is required. Participants are expected to bring their own laptops. Material to process will be provided, but individual findings can be used, too. Please indicate your preference in your registration email.
Please send a short email summarizing your study/research interests and motivation to participate in this workshop by November 5, 2017, to victoria.harms@herder-institut.de. This informal email will only be used to better service your needs.

For further information, please contact any one of the organizers.

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
