“Polar Systems Under Pressure”
The cold regions of the Earth – Arctic, Antarctica and the high mountain ranges – are exposed to fundamental changes due to global warming and direct anthropogenic pressures. The Arctic sea ice as well as glaciers in Greenland and Alpine mountains are not only losing huge areas, but also habitats for many unique organisms depending on the cold habitats. The terrestrial permafrost is thawing leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions. However, these changes ranging from loss in cryospheric extent to coastal erosion or neobiota have many but yet unknown consequences for polar physico-chemical, biogeochemical and geological processes as well as for polar organisms and their ecosystems.
Folgende Themen der Polar- und Hochgebirgsforschung werden im wissenschaftlichen Programm der Tagung behandelt:

• Land-Schelf-Ozean-Wechselwirkungen in der Vergangenheit in der Arktis
• Klimavariabilität vom letzten Glazial bis heute
• Klimageschichte an den Polen - Regionaler Einfluss und globale Bedeutung
• Massenbilanze und Dynamik von Gletschersystemen
• Permafrost und periglaziale Lebensräume
• Marine Polarbiologie - Biodiversität, Verteilung und Nahrungsnetze
• Terrestrische Polarbiologie - Struktur und Funktion von Lebensgemeinschaften
• Polare Organismen unter steigenden Temperaturen
• Pioniere der Polarforschung
• Coole Klassen - Polare Themen an Schulen
• Aktuelle Themen der Polarforschung - von Sozial- bis Naturwissenschaften
• DFG-SPP 1158 Berichtskolloquium
• 150 Jahre Deutsche Polarforschung
Das Berichtskolloquium des DFG-Schwerpunktprogramms 1158 "Antarktisforschung" ist Bestandteil des wissenschaftlichen Programms.
