Sustainability research requires a systems science approach. Since its establishment, the Center for Environmental Systems Research (CESR) has adopted this view to study the systemic effects of human interaction with the environment. The CESR is an interdisciplinary institution of Kassel University. It has led to a number of well-known modelling architectures or system analytical frameworks, spanning topics from global water research over land-use systems and resource efficient infrastructure to innovation diffusion.
CESR is convening leading scholars for an international scientific symposium on Integrative Modelling in Sustainability Systems Research. Since methods are to a large extent determining the scope and relevance of scientific investigation, the symposium will give special attention to innovative, integrative, computational methods of investigation, analysis, modelling, or visualization. Moreover, it will contribute to explore frontiers and perspectives of interdisciplinary, innovative methods and modelling approaches.
The two-day symposium will be organized in thematic sessions and additional keynotes. On both days the programme will start at 9.00 a.m. and will end on 18 May at 4.00 p.m.
Contributions will target:
• Linkages between environmental, economic and social dimensions of sustainable development,
• The nexus of environmental resources (land, water, energy, materials) and linkages with their environmental and/or social impacts,
• Analysis and modelling across scales (local, regional, national, global),
• Problem shifting and inequalities between sectors, countries, or regions,
• Solutions oriented research in terms of technical, institutional or behavioral improvements,
• Approaches to design sustainable production and consumption patterns and/or resource efficient and resilient infrastructure systems.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
