Valentino Braitenberg Award for Computational Neuroscience 2018

The neuroscientist Wulfram Gerstner from the EPFL Lausannne receives this year's Valentino Braitenberg Award for Computational Neuroscience at the Bernstein Conference.

The Valentino Braitenberg Award for Computational Neuroscience will be conferred for the fourth time since 2012. It goes to the neuroscientist Wulfram Gerstner (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), a pioneer in theoretical modelling. Gerstner’s research on synaptic plasticity (spike-timing dependent plasticity (STDP)), is considered groundbreaking in the field of computational neuroscience.

The award is named after Prof. Dr. Valentino Braitenberg (1926, Bozen - 2011, Tübingen), one of the founding directors of the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics. With his novel research approach that combined anatomy, physiology and theory, Valentino Braitenberg was a pioneer of the modern research discipline computational neuroscience and has significantly contributed to the development of biological cybernetics, which has in turn inspired robotics and artificial intelligence.

The award is endowed with € 5.000, kindly donated by „Autonome Provinz Bozen Südtirol”. It comes with a special Golden Neuron pin. Following the award ceremony, Wulfram Gerstner will give the Valentino Braitenberg Lecture.

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
