In seinem Vortrag mit anschließender Diskussion stellt Professor Conrad Schetter, Mitherausgeber des Friedensgutachtens und wissenschaftlicher Direktor des Friedens- und Konfliktforschungsinstituts BICC, die Forderungen des Friedensgutachtens 2018 für eine präventiv und nachhaltig angelegte Friedenssicherung vor.
Hierzu sollte ebenso ein restriktives Rüstungsexportkontrollgesetz gehören, das z. B. Exporte an Kriegsparteien im Jemen ausschließt, wie die Einhaltung des diplomatischen Grundprinzips „pacta sunt servanda“ (Verträge sind einzuhalten). Das Friedensgutachten plädiert für eine selbstbewusste EU-Diplomatie, bei der Deutschland in erster Reihe steht. Weitere Empfehlungen betreffen darüber hinaus die Interventionen in Afghanistan, die Beteiligung an UN-Friedensoperationen oder die Gestaltung von Flüchtlings- und Migrationspolitik.
Im Anschluss an die Diskussion können die Gespräche bei einem kleinen Umtrunk fortgesetzt werden.
