As the blood-brain barrier protects the brain from pathogens, toxins or other substances circulating in the blood, it is most vital for brain functions. On the other hand it is precisely this function that complicates drug treatments since many drugs can’t pass the barrier.
The Symposium covers the latest developments in blood-brain barriers research including:
- Brain Barriers in Development and Homeostasis
- Novel Concepts in Drug Delivery Across the Brain Barriers
- In vitro Modeling and 3Rs
- Novel Approaches in Engineering Brain Barriers
- Molecular Mechanisms Regulating Barrier Integrity
- Pathology of the Brain Barriers – Clinical Aspects
- Lifestyle, Diet and the Barriers
- Role of BBB in Infection
Scientific sessions including two poster sessions, extensive breaks and two evening events will offer many opportunities for discussions and academic exchange. Since promotion of young scientists, clinicians, and academics is a particular aim of this conference, a significant number of speakers will be selected from the best abstracts submitted from young scientists. The program will be completed by invited keynote lectures to present the international points of reference for this fast growing research field.
The website www.bbb-conference.fraunhofer.de offers more information about the program, the registration, the committees, and the guidelines for oral and poster presentations.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
