Across the globe, researchers are increasingly facing attacks on academic freedom, or on freedom of speech more generally, ranging from threats against individuals, court cases and imprisonment to discourses delegitimizing entire disciplines and fields of research. In recent years, Europe has been a refuge for many persecuted researchers. But Europe, too, is not immune to the increasing curtailment of freedoms. The rising influence of right-wing populist movements heightens the pressure on researchers and exposes them to increased hostility. At the panel discussion "Academic Freedom in Europe: Threats and Challenges" at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) on 3 April 2019, researchers from Germany, Hungary and Turkey will discuss how European universities and research institutions can react to this threat. A keynote by Prof. Liviu Matei, Provost of the Central European University, will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Ayşegül Kars Kaynar, Einstein Senior Fellow, HU, Prof. Kira Kosnick, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and Dr. Volkan Cidam, Philipp Schwartz Fellow, HU. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Silvia von Steinsdorff (HU).

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
