In this presentation Kulpa would like to discuss with colleagues some aspects of the Occidentalist underpinnings of knowledge production in queer studies. In a series of vignettes, he wants us to discuss crude neoliberalisation of selected knowledge practices and academic production to be deemed as ‘good’ (‘impactful’) knowledge; institutionalisation and instrumentalization of ‘decolonialisation’ and ‘EDI’ (equality, diversity and inclusiveness) within those market-driven knowledge establishments; cold-war legacies of the (Slavonic) ‘Areas Studies’ – to reconsider the ontological and epistemological underpinnings of queer studies in their Occidentalist, most often Anglophone, formations.
Kulpa is interested in the transnational sexual politics and nationhood’s as interlocked with discourses of geography and temporality, and EUropeanization. He is also invested in thinking about the critical epistemologies of knowledge production in queer studies, esp. of the hegemonic geographies ('West and the Rest'), and neoliberalisation of education and academic work. Recently he has been reading into friendship and developing questions on well-being, resilience, and resistance as modi operandi of marginalised groups during precarious times.
