Medical Devices are a strong driver of healthcare innovation. Both Germany and the United Kingdom (UK) are attractive markets for medical technology companies: with Germany being the biggest and the UK the third biggest market in Europe with market shares of 25.6% and 12.1% (2020)1. However, health systems, market access and reimbursement differ.
The Lunch & Learn gives an overview of both healthcare systems and how medical devices may be introduced and reimbursed in these markets as well as highlighting innovation adoption, opportunities and trends.
Dr. Linda Magee, Health Innovation and NHS Specialist at the Department of International trade, will give an overview on the National Health System (NHS) in the United Kingdom and how medical devices may be introduced and sold to the NHS. Michael Weißer, CEO of AiM GmbH - Assessment in Medicine, Research and Consulting, will introduce the german health system and reimbursement opportunities for medical devices.
Additionally a talk by Prof. David Lowe (SHIP, Clinical Lead for Innovation West Scotland NHS GGC) and James Blackwood (iCAIRD CTO & NHS Programme Manager, AI Lead at Scottish Health and Industry Partnership), will present the Scottish Health & Industry Partnership which is aimed towards strengthening Scotland’s innovation activities in health and social care in order to solve real problems and improve quality, efficiency and sustainability of healthcare. The talk will give insight into priorities and opportunities to work with NHS Scotland including the test beds for innovation initiative.
The participation is free of charge and addresses medical technology companies from Baden-Württemberg and the United Kingdom.
The event is part of the activities of the Partnership Initiative Baden-Württemberg – United Kingdom of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism Baden-Württemberg and is jointly organised by BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg with support of the Department for International Trade, Scottish Development International, Welsh Government and London & Partners.
