International Intelligent Materials (IIM) 2022

The focus of the IIM 2022 will be the latest developments in the versatile field of smart materials, especially in the research areas of health and energy as two of the main challenges our society is facing now. Further material topics are functional network materials, memristive & neuromorphic, magnetoelectric, hybrid quantum or biohybrid materials for innovative applications in medical sensors, information technology, quantum computing, soft robotics or autonomous vehicles.

The focus of the IIM 2022 will be the latest developments in the versatile field of smart materials, especially in the research areas of health and energy as two of the main challenges our society is facing now and in the years to come.

Implant materials or drug delivery devices are constantly being optimized, which is more important than ever in an ageing society. Timely delivery of medicines to a specific location can maximise efficacy with minimal side effects. Such triggers can be implemented by smart switching inside of the materials themselves or combined with complex structuring to facilitate controlled localized treatments.
Since the demand for a stable power supply is constantly increasing the need for clever usage and power distribution is higher than ever. Electricity from renewable energy sources need new energy materials, e.g. for innovative storage strategies, and components from power electronics to distribute electrical power reliably and in line with the demand.

Further topics of the IIM 2022 are functional network materials, memristive & neuromorphic materials, magnetoelectric materials, hybrid quantum materials or biohybrid materials. They may lead to innovative applications in the field of medical sensors, energy-efficient hardware for information technology or quantum computing, smart and soft robotics and autonomous vehicles.

The conference aims to be a broad dialogue platform for exchange between national and international participants and a discussion forum for researchers, manufacturers and users to strengthen cooperation and networking in the field of smart materials. The target group is a materials science-oriented audience, but in an interdisciplinary sense, i.e. covering topics from solid-state physics to biomaterials. The conference programme also includes lectures and poster presentations as well as special programme items such as a "Women in Science and Engineering Breakfast", where career topics are discussed with female experts and role models.

The event is supported by DFG-funded projects at Kiel University such as the Collaborative Research Centres (CRC) 1261 “Magnetoelectric Sensors: From Composite Materials to Biomagnetic Diagnostics”, CRC 1461 “Neurotronics: Bio-inspired Information Pathways and the Research Training Group 2154 “Materials for Brain: Thin Film Functional Materials - for Minimally Invasive Therapy of Brain Diseases” and the priority research area KiNSIS (Kiel Nano, Surface and Interface Science) of Kiel University.

The IIM 2022 is successor of the conference series „Euro Intelligent Materials“. Since 2013, when it was first held, it brought together experts from Germany, Europe and even worldwide in the field of materials with smart or intelligent integrated functionalities as well as high-resolution analytical methods from the fields of life sciences, chemistry, materials sciences, engineering, physics and medicine. Recent publications show the frequency of international co-authorships on this research field. The enormous demand for internationalisation prompted the chairs to take the conference to the next, international level this year.

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
