Training Chair:
Dr.-Ing. Matthias Merzkirch - RISE Research Institutes of Sweden
Goals:
In this seminar, a precise treatment of the experimental characterization of advanced composite materials using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is presented. It explains test methods, testing setup with 2D- and stereo-DIC, specimen preparation and patterning, testing analysis and data reduction schemes to determine and to compare mechanical properties, such as modulus, strength and fracture toughness of advanced composite materials. Sensitivity and uncertainty studies on the DIC calculated data and mechanical properties for a detailed engineering-based understanding are covered instead of idealized theories and sugarcoated results. The seminar provides students, instructors, researchers and engineers in industrial or government institutions, and practitioners working in the field of experimental/applied structural mechanics of materials a myriad of color figures from DIC measurements for better explanation, datasets of material properties serving as input parameters for analytical modelling, raw data and computer codes for data reduction, illustrative graphs, practice exercises and extensive references to the literature.
Target group:
The seminar is designed for engineers and qualified materials test technicians with no or minimum knowledge in Digital Image Correlation and mechanics of composites. Also, for graduates of related courses in material science and engineering. Basic knowledge of materials testing and technical mechanics, as it is usually taught in the first semesters in mechanical engineering, are useful.
Information on participating / attending:
The book " Mechanical Characterization Using Digital Image Correlation - Advanced Fibrous Composite Laminates" by Dr.-Ing. Matthias Merzkirch will be used as training documents. The e-book is included in the participation fee and will be provided digitally to the participants in advance.
If requested, participants can obtain the hardcover version at a discounted price. This will not be included in the participation fee.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
