International Conference: Authenticity in European Cities

The conference "Authenticity in European Cities. Creating, Visualizing, and Contesting Urban and Built Heritage" will focus on how buildings, urban neighborhoods, urban spaces, and actors were and are perceived as “authentic”. The conference analyses processes of authentication in an interdisciplinary way in four sessions. Historical authenticity after World War II, Politics of identification and citizen initiatives, Emotions and urban authenticity, Gentrification and democratic participation.

A public panel discussion on historical reconstruction in Berlin and Potsdam, a poster session with case studies from the research project "Urban Authenticity" and a city tour of Potsdam are also part of the conference program.

The Podium discussion/Öffentliche Podiumsdiskussion (16.03.2023, 19.00 – 20.30) will be in German with simultaneous translation into English.
