All cities, partners and experts seeking to contribute to the sustainable transformation of our cities and regions are cordially invited to attend the 2024 edition of European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns, which also marks the 30th Anniversary of the Aalborg Charter (1994) and the 20th Anniversary of the Aalborg Commitments (2004). To mark the occasion, as well as respond to the needs of the ongoing climate emergency, we are setting our highest bar for success yet.
Join the Smart Cities Marketplace workshop on Traffic and Sustainable Cities: Managing Priorities in the Era of Electric Mobility
Date: Tuesday, 1 October, 14:00-15:30 (Room TBD)
This workshop will explore how cities can navigate the complexities of sustainable mobility in an era increasingly dominated by electric vehicles and smart technologies. Designed for city leaders and stakeholders, the session will provide practical knowledge on implementing and financing innovative mobility solutions that enhance environmental sustainability and residents' quality of life.
Participants will delve into the financial mechanisms that can make projects like Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems viable, using the host city of Aalborg as a case study. The discussion will cover the challenges cities face in funding and executing climate-friendly initiatives, the role of electric vehicle infrastructure, and strategies for engaging surrounding communities that rely on longer-distance transport. By the end of the session, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to prioritise and deliver smart, sustainable urban mobility solutions that are both effective and financially sound.
