Cravatts Forschungsgruppe hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, die Rolle von Proteinen in physiologischen und pathologischen Prozessen des Menschen zu erforschen, um neue therapeutische Ansätze und Medikamente zur Behandlung von Krankheiten zu identifizieren.
Die mit 30.000 Euro dotierte „Emanuel Merck Vorlesung“ wird gemeinsam von der Technischen Universität Darmstadt und dem Wissenschafts- und Technologieunternehmen Merck verliehen. Seit 1993 ging der Preis an rund 20 herausragende Forschende weltweit, von denen vier einen Nobelpreis erhielten. Cravatt nimmt die Auszeichnung im Rahmen einer öffentlichen Feierstunde und einer Festvorlesung an der TU Darmstadt entgegen:
In seiner Vorlesung spricht Cravatt zum Thema „Expanding the drug target universe“.
