The training course offered by the German Society for Materials Science introduces a life cycle perspective for the systematic assessment of materials, products, and processes. It focuses on translating sustainability data into substantiated decisions in research and development, production, purchasing, product design, and corporate strategy. The course consists of five coordinated modules that can be booked individually or as a complete package.
The program covers environmental life cycle assessment in accordance with ISO 14040, including case-study modelling with openLCA and the interpretation of results for product and process development. Economic assessment methods include life cycle costing and material flow cost accounting. Social life cycle assessment addresses social impacts, stakeholder perspectives, and links to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Further topics include Safe and Sustainable by Design, eco-design, chemical risk assessment, and qualitative multicriteria methods for identifying sustainability hotspots and comparing alternative solutions. A separate module examines the current European regulatory framework, including sustainability reporting requirements and due diligence obligations. Practical exercises enable participants to apply the methods to materials, products, and industrial processes.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
