Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC 2017)

SDGs & NEXUS APPROACH: Monitoring and Implementation

UNU-FLORES, TU Dresden and IOER will host the second biennial Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC) on a Nexus Approach to managing environmental resources for sustainable development in the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden from 17 to 19 May 2017.

The Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC) is an international platform to foster cooperation and collaboration amongst all actors and sectors involved in a Nexus Approach to managing environmental resources. DNC is a biennial conference in Dresden, Germany organised by the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES), the Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden) and the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER).

Working across sectors, DNC brings together researchers and implementers (policy- and decision makers) from universities, national and international organisations, UN organisations, ministries and governmental agencies, as well as individual scholars, stakeholders from the private sector and civil society from around the world.

The main objective is to showcase nexus-oriented research and case studies at the interface between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Water-Soil-Waste Nexus, which demonstrate the link between research and policy/implementation. Strengthening that link requires looking in depth at monitoring and implementation strategies. DNC2017 will, thus, address issues related to data requirements as well as data management and its link to resources management. The conference will also deal with governance frameworks for integrated resources management, incentives for resource recovery and efficiency, and the economic framework facilitating the implementation of sustainable environmental resources management strategies.

Looking at the Nexus Approach as a tool for achieving the SDGs, DNC2017 will consider examples and case studies addressing monitoring and implementation strategies targeting research, education and advocacy.
