Ein Resonator hoher Güte, in welchen alle äquidistanten Moden des Frequenzkammes gleichzeitig eingekoppelt werden, verlängert die Strecke, auf der das Licht mit dem Gas in der Kammer wechselwirken kann, erheblich. Das resultierende hochempfindliche Transmissionsspektrum, das einen großen Wellenlängenbereich abdeckt, wird in Echtzeit mit einem zweiten Kamm gemessen. Das Foto stellt einen Teil eines solchen passiven Überhöhungsresonators dar, ähnlich zu dem der benutzt wurde, um die Empfindlichkeit der frequenzkammbasierten Fouriertransformspektroskopie zu steigern. Das grüne Licht, das hier in den Resonator gekoppelt wird, stammt von einem frequenzverdoppelten Yb-Faserlaser.
